Marie-Camille Pitton, Secretary General of the CARO Centre, was invited to take part in the Caraïbes 13h show on RCI Guadeloupe (Radio Caraïbes International), presented by journalist Cécile Remusat, on April 4, 2022.

The interview was an opportunity to remind listeners about the twin aims of the CARO Centre:

  • Resolving commercial disputes through mediation and arbitration.
  • Anticipating disputes through “support” mediation and facilitation.

Marie-Camille Pitton focused on the CARO Centre's flagship service: arbitration, a private method for resolving disputes. As well as reviewing its definition and advantages (there is no appeal procedure, an arbitration award can be enforced in over 160 countries worldwide, etc.), she looked at the CARO Centre's role in managing the procedure.

She then highlighted the difference between arbitrator and judge, underlining the advantages of arbitration for commercial players: it is confidential, flexible and swift. These benefits together mean that arbitration is a key tool for resolving international disputes.

Ms Pitton reiterated the importance of inserting arbitration clauses into agreements, and highlighted the possibility of compromise if the dispute has already ossified between the parties.

She subsequently introduced the CARO days scheduled for April 5-7, and discussed the training courses on the services delivered to the public, lawyers from the Bar of Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy and the Collectivities and public actors in the Guadeloupe region.
