This event marked the first in a series of roundtables aimed at introducing the CARO Centre's brand-new Conflict Management Committee (CMC) service.

The CMC is an innovative Dispute Board, designed to develop effective mediation and conflict resolution strategies before disputes escalate.

The roundtable brought together numerous experts and practitioners to discuss best practices and innovations to address challenges in a sustainable and ethical manner.

Key speakers included:

  • Marie-Camille Pitton, Secretary General of the CARO Centre
  • Elise Groulx-Diggs, International Mediator, Lawyer, Expert in Business and Human Rights Law
  • Mark Appel, Arbitrator, Mediator, and Lawyer

Discussion topics included:

  • The anticipated impact of implementing CMC Rules on the sustainability of infrastructure projects, particularly regarding ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance
  • How investors, employers, contractors, and stakeholders are expected to receive the CMC Rules
  • How the CMC Rules can be integrated into standard frameworks for dispute resolution and ESG compliance (both contractually and in practice)
  • The adaptability of the CMC Rules to different administrations, cultures, and languages, and the perceived barriers to widespread adoption
