Participation of the ACP Legal Association in the 50th Session of UNCITRAL Working Group III, Vienna, January 20-24, 2025

The ACP Legal Association participated in the 50th session of Working Group III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), held in Vienna from January 20 to 24, 2025. The ACP Legal Association, which holds Observer status in this context, was represented by Marie-Camille Pitton, Secretary General of the CARO Center.
The ACP Legal Association was also represented by:
- Dr. Veronika Korom, Research Professor at ESSEC Business School, Lawyer at the Bars of Budapest and Paris, Solicitor (England & Wales), Partner at the law firm Parago;
- Rafael Gil Nievas, Professor and Lawyer at the Bars of Madrid and New York, former Deputy Counsel in charge of arbitration for the Kingdom of Spain, Partner at the law firm GNCI.
UNCITRAL Working Group III comprises representatives of states and organizations gathered to discuss the reform of investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) by developing new codes of conduct, draft directives, creating new institutions such as the Advisory Centre on Investor Dispute Settlement, and preparing a multilateral instrument on the reform of ISDS which will replace the current legal framework with the reform's outcomes.
During the proceedings of the 50th session, the following draft texts were discussed by the delegates from various represented states, as well as by representatives of observer organizations:
- Draft statute of a permanent mechanism for the settlement of disputes related to international investments
- Draft provisions related to procedural and cross-cutting issues
Through this participation, ACP Legal reaffirms its commitment to giving a voice to the Caribbean region in these discussions.
