The 80th edition of the FNJUA Congress (the National Federation of Unions of Young Lawyers) took place on 16-19 May in Guadeloupe.

The event was organised by the Young Lawyers' Union of Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy (UJAG SXM SBT) and the FNUJA.

The FNUJA was created in 1947 and includes all of the young lawyers' unions in France - around 130 Bars all told. Its objectives include defining and promoting any measures necessary to the protection of the individual, their liberties and respect for the rights of defence; seeking methods for improving legal life and the administration of justice; studying the problems involved in the profession of lawyer, and particularly its practice by young professionals; and finally representing, organising and leading professional training courses and assisting and defending its members - lawyers, law students and the whole of the profession.

The week involved a range of training sessions, workshops, round tables and committee work.

The Keeper of the Seals opened the 80th Congress of the National Federation of Unions of Young Lawyers.

Kenny Bracmort, President of the Young Lawyers' Union of Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy welcomed participants to this event combining reflection and training.

On Tuesday 16 May, the CARO Centre organised and led a workshop dedicated to mediation with Maître Romain Carayol, lawyer, mediator, arbiter, trainer, President of the French Federation of Mediation Centres and recently designated a Mediation Ambassador by the Keeper of the Seals. The workshop was led jointly with Maître Caroline Alix; lawyer and President of the AMAK, the Association of Mediation in Guadeloupe.

This workshop on mediation highlighted the importance of mediation as a tool in corporate law dispute resolution, but also within the judicial institution.
