The team behind the OHADAC project is delighted to announce the signing of a partnership between the OHADAC Regional Arbitration Centre (the CARO Centre), the ACP Legal association and the Caribbean Chambers of Commerce (CARICHAM).

The ACP Legal association, chaired by magistrate Catherine Sargenti, has been working since 2007 to promote the harmonisation of business law in the Caribbean, which is a prerequisite for legal, commercial and economic integration in the region.

The CARO Centre - supported by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Islands of Guadeloupe and the ACP Legal association - forms part of the operational phase of the OHADAC project. The CARO Centre provides services not just for resolving but also for anticipating disputes while guaranteeing legal security and facilitating access to justice for economic actors in the Caribbean region. The Centre is chaired by Sir Dennis Byron, former President of the Caribbean Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.

CARICHAM is a network that brings together 21 Caribbean Chambers of Commerce.

Its members come from across the Caribbean, from the Bahamas in the north to Suriname in the south, and from Barbados in the east to Belize in the west.

Members come from English, Spanish, French and Dutch-speaking countries and territories, representing a population of over 11 million people.

The members represent over 100,000 companies.

The CARICHAM network, which was founded in 2019, fosters cooperation between its members and contributes to the region's commercial and economic integration.

CARICHAM is a recent, thriving network that actively promotes facilitating trade, supports Caribbean businesses and improves the region's resilience.

This collaboration includes delivering joint actions; building CARICHAM's capacity in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods; organising events and training programmes; sharing expertise; and pooling resources for business opportunities in the region.

The signing of this partnership means that the CARO Centre will be able to offer support to CARICHAM as it rolls out its activities in the Caribbean region while contributing to the region's economic growth.
