On May 14, 2025, the CARO Centre, in partnership with the Global Alliance of Impact Lawyers (GAIL), Cercle K2, and the law firm Hogan Lovells, hosted a conference at Hogan Lovells' Paris offices on the theme: “The Role of Local Communities in Infrastructure Projects - Tools Offered by the CARO Centre”.
Part of a broader cycle of roundtable events, this conference aimed to present the CARO Centre's innovative Conflict Management Committee (CMC) tool.
The CMC is a new type of Dispute Board that includes continuous dialogue with communities affected by infrastructure projects and monitoring of the project's environmental impact. The mediation-based approach engages all project stakeholders - from project owners and subcontractors to local communities directly impacted.
Speakers included:
- Marie-Camille Pitton, Secretary General of the CARO Centre
- Olivier Fille-Lambie and Bruno Cantier, Lawyers, who provided practitioner insights on infrastructure financing
- Sarah Sameur, Lawyer, who presented the institutional complaint resolution frameworks used by financial institutions
- Elise Groulx Diggs, International Mediator and Lawyer, and Romain Carayol, Lawyer and Mediator, who shared their experiences as mediators in social conflict contexts
- Lucas Aubry, Senior Partner at Hogan Lovells, moderated the roundtable
