The OHADAC team would like to publicise an important conference organised by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators on April 22 - 27, 2018 in Georgetown, Guyana.

This conference will be organised by the Caribbean branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the UK's prestigious benchmark institution for training arbitrators and mediators, and a think-tank and innovation hub for alternative dispute resolution techniques.

The conference will focus more specifically on arbitration and economic development in Guyana based on the theme of energy.

A course on commercial arbitration will be held on April 23 and 24 to familiarise practitioners, senior officials and government representatives with these techniques for rapid and efficient dispute resolution. Two conferences will be held: the first, on April 25, will examine the basic notions of arbitration and mediation; and the second, on April 26 and 27, will look at investment arbitration. These conferences will be an opportunity for lawyers and in-house lawyers, judges and members of regional organisations (inter alios) to share their expertise in key areas for developing mediation and arbitration techniques in the region. The future management team of the OHADAC Centre for Arbitration and Mediation will act as moderator for the panel on the purpose and objectives of the arbitration agreement on the morning of April 25.

The key actors in the region's economic development will be able to use the event to publicise their needs; contribute to the emergence of best practices in the field of dispute resolution; and, more generally, help develop and refine these techniques in the Caribbean region.

A more detailed description of this event is available in the attached brochure.
